  Praising God

This study asks you to respond. If you are an artist, respond by praising God through the arts. If you simply enjoy art, respond by looking for creative works that glorify the Creator. If you have never explored the arts, respond by keeping a journal of your thoughts.

Each chapter investigates a topic that arises in Psalms. Suggestions for various artistic responses are listed at the start of a chapter under "Responding with Praise in the Days Ahead." For example, after completing the questions in Chapter 1, "The Heavens," a writer could decide to create a poem about a particular sunrise or sunset, perhaps referring to Psalm 113:3. A painter could depict contrasting skies with watercolors. Focusing on the words from Job 38:6-7, musicians could compose a song about the stars. A photographer could capture a sunset while dancers could convey the implications of Psalm 147:4 by choreographed movement. An artist who works with stone, wood, or clay could fashion a decorative sundial. Certainly verses in the Old or New Testament will stir some artistic minds to create praise to God in other ways.

You may choose to pursue this Bible study individually. If you study with family or friends, remember that you can discuss creative ideas and then develop the ideas at another time. A small group can provide a place for artists to share what they are doing and for those who enjoy art to share what they are discovering. Whether you study by yourself or with others, ask the Lord to help you express your love for Him and His Word.

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer."
